It is hard to believe that school is almost back in session. I heard that a few schools have already started! That is just crazy! What even happened to school starting the Monday after Labor Day? That is always how it was when I was a kid. Maybe that was a Jersey thing?

Spencer is starting Kindergarten this year and Royal will be in 5th grade. I can’t believe it. Where have the years gone? Whether you have one starting school or continuing on to the next grade, SilverDolphin has a great selection of books for all ages. I am big fan of SilverDolphin and we own many or their books!

It is no secret around here that Spencer is a complete Dinosaur fanatic. Silver Dolphin has a amazing selection of Dinosaur books and, we own most of them.  The newest one we got is Sounds of the Wild: Dinosaurs. Spencer thinks the sounds are really funny but loves to mimic them.

2009 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award Winner, The prehistoric forest is alive with noise! Herds of duck-billed dinosaurs are honking and braying at each other while smaller plant-eating dinosaurs are grunting and rustling in the bushes. Then all of a sudden—ROAR—it’s the terrifying sound of a T. Rex! Now dino-loving kids can meet all of the incredible animals that once walked the face of the earth in this incredible new book from best-selling illustrator Maurice Pledger. Sounds of the Wild: Dinosaurs brings together dramatic, multilayered dinosaur sound effects with incredible pop-up panoramas to give children a sense of life 200 million years ago. They’ll discover a panoply of prehistoric creatures from the Triassic and Jurassic periods through the Late Jurassic and Cretaceous eras. They’ll dine with fearsome meat-eater Allosaurus, hear the eerie calls of the giant underwater Liopleurodon, and insist that you read the book again and again.

Out of all we own, The Field Guide to Dinosaurs is definitely my favorite. There is so much information in this book to be learned. Since Spencer is only 5 and this is geared towards older children, I have to play around with some of the words when I read it to him so he understands. The unique cover replicates an antique journal and the content is filled with color illustrations, maps, and interactive elements. It features a journal-style story, 70 color die-cut pieces to assemble 8 dinosaur models, and a 3-D diorama.

I chose the Papermania book for Royal because I thought it might help him pay attention to detail a little better.  This book almost forces him to take his time doing the projects inside. If you rip it, it’s just not going to come out right. So far he is doing really great with it. I do have to remind him before he starts, to slow down and take his time.

How would you like to make postcards of the coolest places you can dream up in your imagination, or build your own magical aquarium? What about creating an Old West ‘Wanted’ poster with your little brother’s picture on it? Now creative (and mischievous) kids can go as far as their minds will take them with Papermania! Cut, color, crease and craft away the day with 48 clever activities like creating a gum chart, making a 3-D movie theater and more.

I would love to give one lucky reader a chance to win their choice of any book from the SilverDolphin website!

I think that my son would love “Learn to Draw with Circles” He gets so frustrated sometimes when he sees me drawing and I am trying to teach him to break everything down into smaller steps, and I think this book would be perfect for that!
