It is no secret to many that I am a horrible sleeper and I love my food, having a garden has helped. Almost 7 years ago, I became a single Mom. I was okay with it. It was a new journey that I was happy to take. Why? I was a very depressed person. Not happy with my life and I had gained a lot of weight. I was over 250 lbs when this chapter began. Over the course of the years, I managed to lose 50 pounds. This was a big accomplishment for me because I didn’t think I could do it. Stress is an amazing weight loss tool. Not that I recommend doing it that way. Over time I gained a few pounds back.
Currently I have hit that weight loss wall. I will be 40 next year and I know it gets harder to lose it as we women get older. I got to the point where I just ignored it. Out of sight out of mind, right? That just wasn’t working for me.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I recently started Thrive. I am currently on Day 5 and feeling great. I haven’t gone back to bed in 5 days and I am excited to see where this takes me. With the balance of sleeping and moving twice as much during the day, I am hopeful. Wish me luck!
With all of my new-found energy, I started to focus on my garden. I am determined to have an amazing crop this year. Last year we had a lot of cucumbers but nothing else really seemed to thrive. (See what I did there? Completely unintentional lol) So, I decided that I wanted to do raised beds. The ground moles got under the garden and ripped my root vegetables to shreds. I pulled up my radishes with such joy, only to find them chomped on. Very disappointing.
I wanted to share with you why my postings have been well, few and far between the last few months. We were thrown a fast curveball with my step-son and it has been very consuming. Now, while Patrick and I are not married, and have no intentions of ever being so, (we have both been there and done that), his kids are still my step-children. I live with them, care for them and love them as if they were my own, as all step-parents should. I am very grateful that our blended family works wonderfully. We both get along with his ex-wife, Janet, and this is something that is very important when dealing with any life changing events.
Alex was always a smiling and laughing child. He is one of those children that can make just about anything funny. He has so much to say and wants everyone to know his thoughts. His energy is so contagious and hard not to dive into it head first. He can bring a smile to your face regardless of what your current mood its.
On March 14th, 2016, our lives were changed forever. Alex, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 9 years old. Just like any other “bad news” a doctor gives you, we were completely freaking out. He is with us every other week during school and every 2 weeks in the summer. Since I am the primary care giver during this time, my mind started doing flips. How am I going to take care of him? What if I mess something up? How am I going to revamp the entire way that I cook? How expensive is his new diet going to be? The questions and worries were so overwhelming. read the rest of this entry »

Smoking, yes I do it. Yes. I know it’s unhealthy. Yes, I know it’s bad for me. Yes, I know how bad it smells. It has always been a push pull thing with me. If this explanation doesn’t help you understand my struggle, I don’t know what will. Hang tight for this one!
I quit, the first time, in 2002, when I became pregnant with Royal. I started again in 2005 because, well, I was an idiot. I stopped again in 2006 when I became pregnant with Spencer. I started again in 2008 when my Dad passed away. I stopped in 2010 just because I wanted to. I started again in 2011 when my grandfather passed away. This was short lived and I quit 2 months later. Once again, I started in 2012 when my boyfriend died. That was pretty much the end of it. I have been smoking since then.
Many people have a beer or a glass of wine but, I don’t drink. I suppose smoking is my relaxation. My fiancee is a smoker as well, or at least he was 4 weeks ago. I am very excited to tell you how he quit. He had a little assistance from a product called Aqua-tine™. read the rest of this entry »
