PostHeaderIcon Ways to save money when taking the kids to New York

New York City is a lot of things – Big Apple, the Capital of the World, the City That Never Sleeps to name a few – but cheap isn’t usually the first word that springs to mind. This famous city need not be that big a drain on your financial health, however, provided you travel right. This little guide will teach you the tricks to save cash on your New York family holiday, from flights to sightseeing tips to where to find good value eats.

Book flight tickets from the right place

There’s not a major airport in the world that doesn’t offer flights to New York, but that doesn’t mean you should hop aboard the first flight you find. Tickets are often cheaper from major urban centres than smaller cities. For example, you’ll likely find cheaper tickets between Miami-New York than Jacksonville-New York. It might be cheaper to travel to the nearest big city for a flight.

Also consider booking tickets at the right time – avoiding holidays and weekends. Instead, try to get tickets on weekday afternoons to save a bundle. This goes for the time that you book and the time that you fly as well. read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon What New York is really like…. or is it?

Upstate New York - DelightfulChaos.comHaving grown up in NJ, directly across from Manhattan, I figured I had a pretty good idea of what New York was like. Last year I was proven wrong when I had to drive in New York City for the very first time. The word nervous doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling. If you have never driven in NYC before, you should give it a try. If you can drive there, you can drive anywhere.

As if traffic was not enough to have to concentrate on, I had to deal with construction as well. I accidentally went through the E-Zpass trying to get into the Lincoln Tunnel. Oopsie! The tunnel was extremely overwhelming at first. You “can’t” change lanes and you “can’t” go over 35 mph. I felt the need to put these in quotes because those are the law that are posted in and outside of the tunnel. I don’t think one person, except my scared self, followed the posted laws.

The semis seem to fly through the tunnel. At times I felt like there was no way my Jeep had enough room in my lane. Then I would see a truck go by and instantly laughed and though, “I’m good!” Luckily, it only took me about 30 seconds to get over my fear of the tunnel and the city. I think I was more worried about someone smashing into my Jeep than I was about hitting someone else.

PostHeaderIcon Plum Organics Superhero Summer #CampAmazing Sampling Event at The @DetroitZoo (and other locations nationwide)

What is better than food and animals for kids? I know that it’s pretty exciting for me! Plum Organics is hitting the road this summer to deliver amazing activities and healthy snacks to children throughout the country as part of a national summer tour called Camp Amazing. Hitting over 30 cities beginning mid-June through end of August, Plum will be setting up shop with interactive educational games, craft projects, and superhero training stations that celebrate how amazing children are while teaching them important values like healthy eating, creative thinking and giving back.

Earlier this year, Plum Organics launched their social impact program, The Full Effect™ focused on nourishing babies and toddlers in need here in the US. As a key part of this initiative, Plum designed an essential nutrition pouch product called the Super Smoothie, which aims to ease the nutritional deficiencies often experienced in food insecure little ones. Plum has pledged to donate at least a half million Super Smoothies in 2013 through their national network of non-profit and regional community partners.

Beginning in June 2013, Plum will be participating in a series of events throughout the country where the 500,000 Super Smoothies will be distributed to communities in need. To complement the big community events hosted by Plum’s national partners, such as Convoy of Hope, Plum will also be hand delivering some of their Super Smoothies to community partners in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City and San Antonio, while the Plum team is on the road for Camp Amazing.

Additionally, during Camp Amazing, children will participate in a series of Amazing activities, one of which is a pledge to “Do Amazing” in their communities. For every child that pledges to “do amazing”, Plum will donate incremental Super Smoothies* in each child’s honor – a donation that will be celebrated at Plum’s end of summer event in Los Angeles on August 25th.
* Up to 20,000 Super Smoothie pouches.*

On Sunday July 7th, the Detroit Zoo is partnering with Plum Organics Baby and Toddler food to promote this event!. Head out to the Detroit Zoo and take part in this event! You will also go home with free product samples from Plum Organics. This event will be held behind the Penguinarium near the kids play structures. If you see the boys and I, stop and say hello!

The Superhero Summer Camp Tour experience will include…..

–          Tented areas with interactive games that will Attract, Engage, Immerse and Reward to camper that attends

–          Give-a-ways for babies, tots, kids and families

–          Our Staff dressed as “Camp Counselors”
