PostHeaderIcon Dear Dell, A Moment of silence please…

Good morning friends…. I would like to ask that you take a moment to please bow your head for my prized possession. My Dell Inspiron 1720 *sniff*. (I do love this laptop though, NEVER had a problem with it before!) Yesterday morning I turned it on and did my morning routine as I always do. I was drawn away from it by my 2 year old and my battery died. No big deal right? When I turned it back on it was going completely mad. It will not boot up now. I just keep getting the blue screen of death telling me that it is dumping physical memory to disk. Finally it worked for about 30 mins. I sent a few emails, talked to a friend and then it just rebooted. Royal looked up the problem online and we have the impression that the memory is fried but not so sure that is it. Hopefully it is nothing to serious because a new laptop is not in my budget right now. Darn that Christmas holiday and kids! lol But if any PC manufacturer is reading this I would be glad to review a new laptop for you! :D

I am not sure how many posts that I will be able to get up while I get this issue resolved. I am using Royal’s laptop but there are a few issues with that for me. #1 being that it is one of those 10″ minis and going from a 17″ you can imagine how annoying this thing is to use! #2 being that of course it has non of my information on it, email, programs etc.. I will try to get at least one thing put up a day but I am going to fall seriously behind :( but will do my best with what I have available.

If you have a great deal or something that can easily be posted please feel free to email it to me to share with everyone else. I could use the extra help right now :)

    Nothing worse then not having access to all of your files, folders and all the litle stuff from your computer. Hopefully it is a quick and easy fix and you get to come home with a fixed laptop.

    I’ve met Mr.Dell in person on serveral occasions, and he seemed like a very reliable trustworthy friend.
    IHe will be missed. ((tear))

    PS- I if i hear od any deals I will let you know… my 10in mjini took a while to get use to … but i kinda love it now… maybe you can learn to love a mini too!

    My 1520 will be mourning its cousin today.

    It is hard getting used to a new computer when you have worked with the same one for so long. Hopefully you will not be without for long.

    I know you said you haven’t had any problems until now, but I am just interested: How long did you have it before it went on the fritz? I was planning on getting the Dell for my oldest (21) for Christmas, but my husband has been telling me we should get him a different brand.

    Anyway, I’m sorry for your loss, I know it’s horrible when a computer dies unexpectedly.

  • I’ve had this happen several times on my Inspiron 6400. Shut it down, let the battery completely charge and try it again. BACK UP EVERYTHING if you have not already done so. My battery is reaching the end of it’s usable life (I get about a year on each battery) and this seems to happen more right before my battery is toast.

    Fortunately hubby has already said he is replacing my laptop for Christmas! :D So I’m not buying another battery and will limp my well-loved laptop through the rest of this month!

    Rosey: I bought the laptop in July of 2008 so about a year and a half? I am not sure what is up with the memory but memory is really cheap to replace so its not a big issue.

    Gail: Funny thing is I have never backed up anything and yesterday my MIL got me an external hard drive LOL Day to late? My battery died after about a year also… total crap IMO

    I had my HP laptop for about a year when it started giving me fits. I ended up replacing the hard drive and getting a cool pad for it. I managed to keep it going for another few years and in July 2007 I broke down and bought a Mac. It’s not perfect, but 2 1/2 years later it works without giving me fits. I did get my daughter a Dell last year and it seems to be holding up pretty well. I sure hope it doesn’t die in the next six months, though. :(

    Here’s to it being only a memory issue! [sounds a little like me, lol]

    cool pads make a world of diference for laptops. Maybe someone can help you – you can bring it up in safemode and there is a short and extended disk check that will attempt to repair some hard drive issues. Certainly worth the effort of trying to let the system help itself.

    My HP HD crashed over Thanksgiving week and cannot be recovered so I do feel for you.

    It turned out to be a memory issue! Put some new sticks in today and it is as good as new! I haven’t heard about the CC giveaway? Do you have a link for that?
