I have never really been a “take medication” type of person. Unless it is prescribed to me by a doctor, (and even then I don’t always listen) I tend to suck it up most of the time or find another way to deal with the pain. After my first son was born I started to get really bad Migraines. They were not frequent but they were the knock you on your butt for the day, grab a bucket kind. They have become worse in the past year because of some heath issues BUT I truck on :) If you get migraines, you know how difficult this can be at times.

I was invited by Excedrin to participate in a blog initiative to share with you my experience with migraines, all the while raising awareness for Excedrin® Migraine, the first non-prescription medicine approved by the FDA to treat all the symptoms of a migraine. I have to tell you that I laughed when I first read this email. Not in a bad way of course. Two of the only products that I use for headaches are Excedrin Migraine and Excedrin Tension. I chuckled a bit because it was nice to be contacted by someone for a product I already used and loved.

Some days a migraine will pop up at the most inconvenient time. Isn’t that always the way?  Being a single Mom there is no time to go back to bed and live in the dark until it goes away. Believe me, some days that is all I want to do when they sneak up. I mentioned, I just don’t take medication but when I came across Excedrin Migraine, and it worked for me, I stuck with it.

I have not quite figured out how to avoid getting migraines yet but one of the things that really helps me is a combination of a cold eye mask followed by a shower as hot as I can stand it. The water running on my head feels great. Sometimes it feels good until I get out but, I will take the temporary relief over none at all! These are things that work for me personally. I would really love to hear your tips and suggestions on how you deal with Migraines and what works for you!

Headache Prevention Tips

  • Take short breaks during your busy day to stretch. This will help to relieve excess stress!
  • Make sure you keep a consistent sleep schedule. Sleep deprivation can lead to migraines and headaches.
  • Vary your diet! The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil have been found to reduce the frequency of headaches.

    I need this package! Migraines inspire the dark room, ice pack, “where are the drugs?”, head under the pillow moments. And I have done ALL of these!

    I get occular migraines. I lie down, try to relax, and wait for it to go away.

    My husband always lays down and closes his eyes until they pass. I have a friend who has done acupuncture to treat migraines.

    I take Excedrin or aspirin and lay down in bed with my eyes closed. It works for me.

    I rarely get migraines but one time I had one so bad it literally made me sick to my stomach. I used normal tylenol but it didn’t do a thing.

    When I get a migraine the only things that works is trying to avoid very bright light and loud noises. I lay down if possible.

    I have had problems with migraines since I was a teenager. My mom also gets them. Mine are around 12 hours or so. My moms are sudden pain lasting a minute or so but zaps her.

    Fortunately, I don’t get migraines. But, in our house, we’re always dealing with my husband’s migraines! I try to help him get through it by not raising my voice & giving him the injections that help him to get rid of them.

    I get migraines often. The only thing that really works for me is laying in a dark room with complete silence, but Excedrin does help take the edge off. Very rarely do I have the opportunity to lay down in silence so I am thankful for Excedrin Migraine.

    i get terrible headaches that were diagnosed as migraines, but i think my sinuses are partly to blame. nothing really seems to make them go away other than just sleeping them off. thank u for the giveaway – i need to win this!!!

    A good way to handle my migraines/headaches is to take some quiet time and lay down.

    I get migraines every so often…when I do I get sick..I take hot showers and put cold compresses on my head and try to sleep it off

    I have been getting Migraines since age 13 and I will go into dark cool room with quiet and sleep if possible….it is the best medicine.

    Thankfully I do not get migraines often.
    But when I do they’re pretty nasty.
    The only thing that works for me is an Imitrex injection.

    I tend to get migraines when I get really stressed. I try to drink lots of water, take my Excedrin Migraine, and try to rest.

    I have had horrible migraines my entire life. I went on neurontin for my back pain and fibromyalgia and it actually helped relieve hte migraines a bit. Not completely but I get them less often than before when not on it.

    I find hot baths with a bag of frozen peas on top of the head help out some.

    I get them all the time, usually at least once a week. I have to go lay down in a dark room with two Excedrin Migraine on the onset then a cool pack on the back of my neck. I usually end up sleeping and taking it easy for the rest of the day on my room. I have also found that taking a shower with the pulsing setting on the shower head about 6 inches above my head works wonders. Mom told me to use raw potatoes on my temples to help I do it with the cool pack not sure that really helps or not.

    I have them twice a month. I take Excedrin, and then lay in the dark with a heating pad on the back of my neck. Within an hour, its gone!!

    I have to sit up (if I lay down they are worse) and have an ice pack on my head. Luckily, I discovered they were triggered by additives in foods. If I avoid processed foods, I rarely experience them.

    When I get them, I am out of commission for the day….I have to drink lots of water and sleep it off in a dark room
