Disclosure: This is a post written by me and any opinions expressed are my own. I may or may not have received compensation for my services.

I am a big fan of movies. We try to do a movie night at least once a week in our home. It has been many years since I have been to a drive-in movie. They really are a great past time that I think more people should enjoy. Some sad news has come my way and I wanted to share it with you. Did you know there are less than 400 left in the United States? I was not offered anything for this posting. I feel that this is something we still have it should be saved! If you have ever gone to a movie theater with children of different ages, you know what a headache that can be. Someone has to use the bathroom, someone is hungry, someone is bored, and the list goes on. Drive-ins theaters give the kids so much more freedom, you aren’t in anyone’s way, no one kicking your seat and so on. Take a second to vote for your favorite drive in to be saved and make a donation if you can! Only 5 will be selected by Honda for this campaign.

Final credits may be rolling for drive-in theaters in your area that can’t afford the costly conversion to digital projections.  The end of 35mm film distribution by the end of the year could shut down hundreds of drive-in theaters that are struggling to raise the estimated $75,000+ per screen needed to survive. As friends and families nationwide flock to drive-ins in demonstration of their support, Honda is teaming up with these small businesses in an effort to preserve this historic part of American cinema
and car culture.

Project Drive-In is a newly launched national effort sponsored by Honda that aims to save as many drive-ins as possible through promoted public awareness, encouraged community involvement and sponsored fundraising efforts.  At Project Drive-In, voting will begin today to determine if drive-ins in your area will receive one of the new digital projector donations from Honda! Drive-Ins have been a special place for families to enjoy for generations and we would hate nothing more than to see them disappear. I believe that this is an effort that many of you could get behind and could make for a heart-warming story of drive-ins in your community.

Project Drive-In Specifications:
·    At Project Drive-In, you can vote to determine which five drive-in theaters will receive a new digital projector from Honda.
·    Voting began today, Aug. 9 and ends on Sept. 9. The five winning theaters will be revealed in September, and each will host a
celebration that includes a premiere of Sony’s “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.”
·    As part of Honda’s fundraising efforts, there will also be an online auction that features tickets to the Los Angeles premiere of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” as well as additional film-related merchandise.
·    Honda will launch pop-up drive-ins at Honda dealerships across the country to help raise awareness and build a groundswell of support.
·    Drive-in theater owners share their stories in the video “Project Drive-In: Help Honda Save an American Icon” which you can view at .

There is probably one drive in theatre left in the town where I live.Such a shame that people don’t hardly ever go anymore.

  • Adriane says:

I’m old enough to remember when drive-in’s were all over southern California – I sure miss them!

  • I grew up in southern Indiana and there is still one drive-in operating, just one left, and I’d hate to see it shut down.
