McDonald’s Recycled Sweet Tea
The lady in front of me at McDonald’s was waiting in line for a refill on her sweet Tea. She hands the cup to the woman behind the counter and she fills it up for her. She hands the cup it back and the woman tells her she wanted unsweetened. The employee proceeds to dump the tea BACK INTO the container. The woman turns and looks at me and I just laughed. Now if at this point, you don’t see the problem here then please, stop reading and leave my blog.
She asks me who does she tell, so I suggested the manager. She explains that she didn’t want to get the girl in trouble but that was just disgusting. She decides to just tell the girl directly. The woman tells the employee that it was pretty unsanitary and down right disgusting that she poured it back into the machine since she had used the cup already. The employee said back to her, “Oh but your cup was empty, I checked first..” ummm the woman had still drank from the cup!
We sat where I could see the counter just because I was interested to see if she actually did anything about it. I really don’t think she would have if she hadn’t noticed me sitting and watching. She went over the the manager and I saw the hand and head going. She told him but I imagine she made it like it was no big deal and we were complaining. They did end up emptying and refilling it.
I think I totally grossed the woman out because I said, “It makes you wonder how many times she has done that before today.”

Kinda makes you wonder what else goes on. That was gross and makes me a bit sick.
What really got me was the girl seriously didn’t think that she did anything wrong. The woman in line and I stood there in complete amazement!

That was absolutely disgusting! I will make sure to steer clear of that McDonalds! How could she not think that was wrong?
gross gross gross I am so glad you can not pour pop back in the machine so I am safe!
@Jayme: If you could have seen her behavior, it was even more disturbing. It was like we were just hassling her!
@Ellen: Thank goodness for self serve soda machines now!
That is one reason I try to eat at home. You just never know what goes on. A very long time ago (30 years maybe) my brother’s friend worked at McDonalds and he used to spit on the burgers. Gross. This is what my brother told me anyway.
Yes, I have dated guys in high school that worked in the food business who had some stories!
These are the types of behavior you can almost seen to expect when employers choose to hire younger less experienced workers. in this case it was merely a matter of common sense… And these days common sense seems to be not so common.
I agree with the common sense being not so common. The girl wasn’t a kid was she was old enough to know it was a poor choice.

As nasty as this was, it’s nothing new and not just McDs. Restaurant workers have been gross for many years. I worked at Ponderosa is the late 70s and some of the things I saw would curl your toes (and make your lunch come back up).
Well for minimum wage you can’t expect much.
omg get over it…there is a lot worse that could be going on..and actually any fast food place is going to get a higher heath score than any family or personally owned resaurant. I would be more disturbed by a chef who decides it’s okay to cut raw meat and then use the same knife on fresh foods.
Hey Krystal, were you the employee by chance? lol You have your opinion, I have mine but thanks for the comment and for stopping by!
