PostHeaderIcon Recipe: Turkey Bacon Wrapped Chicken

I was shocked to find out that so many people I know have switched from pork bacon to turkey bacon. I am without a doubt a huge bacon lover so even getting myself to try it was a big ordeal. You can of course taste the difference but it’s really not bad! The boys have actually come to like it too. What I like about it most is knowing there is not all that grease in the pan when it’s done cooking. I know, I know, that’s the best part right?

I am certain this is not an original idea but it was one of those, open the fridge, look in and grab, dinner moments. Really simple and really delicious. I am a big fan of Applegate Naturals bacon for a number of reasons.

It is all natural, no antibiotics used, gluten free, casein free, not preserved, minimally processed, no artificial ingredients and a lot more. I purchase mine at Kroger so there is a very good chance you can find this at your local grocery store. Applegate isn’t just limited to bacon either. They make a wide variety of products from hot dogs to lunch meats! read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon #Recipe: Simple Kid Friendly Mini Oreo Cheesecakes

Kid Friendly Mino Oreo Cookie Cheesecakes - DelightfulChaos.com

Cheesecake is one of my favorite guilty pleasures! I moved this recipe from my sister site because I will be closing it down. I love to make cheesecake but I find myself having no control over cutting myself a huge piece and grabbing a tall glass of ice cold milk. I like to make these because not only is it portion control for me but it is also portion control for the boys. These are very easy to make and you can even get the kids involved in this one. We had so much fun making these that we ended up a cookie short because someone ate one. *whistles*

I did post this recipe with all regular products but, I did use low fat Oreos, low fat cream cheese and light sour cream. I have made them both ways and it always comes out delicious.

PostHeaderIcon Tips for Creating Your Own Fika

Fika? What’s a Fika? If you are looking for a new way to relax this summer and you love coffee, go Fika! Fika is basically a Swedish coffee break. Swedes consider having a coffee an important part of the culture. You can fika at work by taking a “coffee break,” fika with someone like a “coffee date,” or just drink a cup of coffee. As such, the word has quite ambiguous connotations, but almost always including something to eat, such as cookies, cakes and even candy, accompanied by a drink. This practice of taking a break, typically with a cinnamon roll or some biscuits or cookies, is central to Swedish life, and is regularly enjoyed even by the government.

So…relax like the Swedes do and have a Fika, this cultural mainstay allows Swedes to take true coffee breaks throughout the day (not just grabbing a coffee to go). Swedes actually slow down, sit and savor a rich cup of coffee and a sweet snack in the company of friends, twice a day, every day.

How do you master the art of creating your own fika?

  • Silence the cell phone, set the timer for 15 minutes and take a break with a friend.
  • Choose the right brew, like a delicious cup of Gevalia Kaffe, the Swedish-heritage coffee and preferred brand in Sweden that is now available in U.S. retail stores.
  • Bake a dessert like Kanelbullar (Swedish Cinnamon Buns) or something as simple as Pepparakakor (Swedish Ginger Snaps).  If you’re not up to baking, any sweet treat or even fruit will do!
  • If you want to go all out, decorate your space with a nice place setting using Swedish-designed coffee mugs and label the desserts in Swedish.

All I can say is I am totally hooked on these. They are a DELICIOUS snack. I really loved the Classic Cheddar (as did the boys) but the Garlic Herb ones are yummy too.  As good as the Cheddar and Bacon sounds, I did not care for this one at all and neither did Spencer. It’s almost an over powering bacon flavor. I know what you are thinking, No such thing as to much bacon lol Cooked bacon, on my plate…. then I would agree but bacon flavored stuff I don’t care for. Pick up a box and let me know what you think!
