It seems that our 15 minutes of fame is now complete. The 16th minute is very quiet, the way we like it! People are still driving by all day long, honking their horns, slowing down and looking but the phone has stopped ringing. I want to thank our local police department for all of the time they are taking to drive by our home everyday. With all that has happened it makes everything feel a bit more comfortable.

The latest happenings with this story is my husband was contacted my the Fox News network to appear on their morning show Fox & Friends. It is obvious that I do not watch a lot of TV until after the boys go to bed because I had never heard of it. They wanted him to come on and talk about it. So, yesterday morning, a car arrives at 6am to take him to Detroit (about 45 minutess). At 7:50am my husband appears on national TV! Yes, it was a little weird seeing him and the boys went nuts!

Other than the fact that this story went global (yes, we found it on UK news sites!), I think the funniest part was that “Jane” changed her story 4 different times between the news and newspapers and the voters noticed :)

I hope for now, the candidate whining is over and we can move on to more important campaign activity. I am so proud of my husband for how wonderfully he has handled this entire situation. The attempts to make him look bad or make him mad did not work. Wish us lurk on November 3rd!

OMG, this thing is going crazy! Fox News contacted my husband yesterday to be on the Fox & Friends show about this! Not only that but we were just watching Headline News and they had it on! Can you believe that these 2 people now look stupid nationally? We are laughing so hard over this whole thing. This goes to show how wrong an original plan can go.

I would assume that the idea was to make my husband look bad and to discredit him as a candidate. I am thinking that didn’t work the way they had planned. Headline News said HIS name but referred to them as “The Other Candidates”. We are completely blown away by this entire thing. We did it to be funny for Halloween and it turned into this out of control news story. I really thought I was doing good by keeping people’s names private from the beginning but I really don’t see why it matters now since it is on Headline News I really don’t see the point anymore.

Jim and Jane called out 1 of our local news crews so they could tell their side of the story. We didn’t speak with them, they just took some footage of the house, talked to Jim and Jane and left. About 10 mins later another news crew from another station comes out. We ended up talking to them because I had to get my son off the bus and I did not want him being filmed or talked to. He is only 7 and I doubt they would have but I wasn’t taking the chance. They actually came out a total of 3 times yesterday and did a live new cast at 11. It was great! It ended up going fairly well. I really wish I could post the newscast because it was hysterical. It looked as though took all the anchors  had not to bust out laughing on the TV. I think in the end Jim and Jane came out looking like a bunch of morons. All Jane had to say was, “It’s just an example and shows the lack of seriousness that he is applying towards this campaign.” Leave it to her to be the one to have something negative to say. I don’  know any of the personally but if they new  my husband they would know this is something he is passionate about. He actually wants to help these town and not line his pockets and be a big shot.

We are calling my husband Howard in this story. I know tons of you already know his name but lol….I don’t really care if anyone see’s all of the names and places, I am just trying to be considerate.  This is a copy from the news cast. I did add some additional quotes from the video that they did not include.

A xxxxx trustee candidate cut out tombstones and painted his opponents names’ on them.

A local candidate’s Halloween decorations are angering his opponents. One other candidate even says his family feels threatened. Howard is running for xxxxxxx trustee. He put his name in his front yard and all his opponents’ names as well. Howard debated how to mock his opponents for Halloween.

“I could have done skeletons but that’s kind of iffy.”

So instead the Republican candidate for township trustee, “Cut out tombstones and painted every body’s name. You can see down here is the date of the election when I bury my opponents.”

Independent Jim found his name on Trustee Hill Cemetery along with five other candidates.

The angry candidates met us across the street from their tombstones. While everyone spoke to us, the two sides were not speaking to each other, until Jim and Howard met for the first time. And so the two men reached a compromise, Howard painted over Jim’s name with an asterisk but left the rest of them.

Addressed to Jim and Jane, “Is it possible you guys are taking this to seriously?”, to which Jim replied, “Umm, no, I don’t think so. When my wife is upset about this and scared for her safety, my safety, no.” Howard says, “It’s all in good fun.”

Howard says it’s all in fun. But we did ask if voters should still take this first time candidate seriously, to which Howard replied, “This makes my kids happy, I don’t care what they think. That’s important to me, my kids are happy and they like it, I like it.”

We are told this is not the first time tombstones have gone up in the Howard’s yard for Halloween. We are told that last year, Howard’s wife  put up tombstones with all the names of his ex-girlfriends on them.

You can follow all of the updates for this story HERE.

Without telling names and locations, I will tell this story the best that I can.

What you are looking at below is a picture of our front yard. I have blocked out all of their names to protect their privacy because I am nice like that :) My husband is running for a local political position. For Halloween we thought it would be funny to put the names of all of the candidates on tombstones and name it “xxxxx Hill Cemetery” (hill as we live on a hill) the XXX’s are the position title.cemetary2

Most of the people who drive past our house wave, laugh or just slow down to look. We even had candidates say they thought it was funny. But of course, there always has to be those few who have to ruin the fun for everyone.

I see a jeep in my driveway today so naturally I go outside. It is 2 of the candidates. Their names are clearly two on the tombstones. I will call them Jim and Jane. Jim proceeds to tell me that he considers it a threat. Jane introduces herself and feels the need to say, “I am Jane and as you can see I am very much alive”. Really? Did you feel that was absolutely necessary considering I can see you standing right there?

Jim goes on to ask how would I feel if he hung a guy in his yard with my husbands name on it. I told him to go for it. I don’t think that is the answer he was expecting as he stumbled his words for a moment. I said it is a Halloween decoration and they really didn’t seem to care. At one point, Jim says, “I have never met your husband so this is why I stopped over instead of calling the media.” Seriously?  The media? Oh, no, please don’t! This actually wouldn’t do him much good as I already sent the original photo to our local newspaper and 2 news channels. I AS VERY NICELY AS I COULD nicely took Jim’s number and Jane’s card and said all I could do was pass the information on to my husband. I never told him we would take it down.

I personally think this is ridiculous. Now, I understand all of the nonsense that goes on in politics but it is not like we put it up in March. It is clearly a Halloween scene. It also was not meant to mean RIP as in REALLY die and RIP. It was more of a Die in the polls, numbers etc. Since the election date is clearly on the headstone and its an election, I would THINK that anyone with a clue would have understood that.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Oh, and if and of the other Jim’s or Jane’s happen to read this post (by some tiny chance), your free to post your opinions but I will not be responding to them because I already said my take on it.

Updated to add: Now Jim’s wife is over there, some other people, nosey neighbors are talking to them, people driving by are taking pictures and it looks like they got a photographer. Oh and our photographer already left :)
