TAKING A ROAD TRIP, OH MY! In 2013, my family of 3 became a family of 6, interesting human beings, (7 if you count the dog). This required a little more brain power on my part. My Mom and brothers live 500 miles away so taking a road trip several times a year is pretty common for this crazy bunch. We have also taken an amazing road trip to Washington D.C., in the summer of 2016, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last summer.

Most people have a vehicle that holds 5 people because the average family size is only 4. Naturally, Patrick had one of those vehicles. Luckily for us, I have a Jeep Commander that seats 7 people. So, woohoo, I have the Mom vehicle, which is okay because I love my Jeep. Patrick has a Jeep Cherokee which is completely out for traveling unless it is just the 2 of us (like that ever happens) or for whatever reason, all of the children aren’t traveling with us.

PostHeaderIcon Ways to save money when taking the kids to New York

New York City is a lot of things – Big Apple, the Capital of the World, the City That Never Sleeps to name a few – but cheap isn’t usually the first word that springs to mind. This famous city need not be that big a drain on your financial health, however, provided you travel right. This little guide will teach you the tricks to save cash on your New York family holiday, from flights to sightseeing tips to where to find good value eats.

Book flight tickets from the right place

There’s not a major airport in the world that doesn’t offer flights to New York, but that doesn’t mean you should hop aboard the first flight you find. Tickets are often cheaper from major urban centres than smaller cities. For example, you’ll likely find cheaper tickets between Miami-New York than Jacksonville-New York. It might be cheaper to travel to the nearest big city for a flight.

Also consider booking tickets at the right time – avoiding holidays and weekends. Instead, try to get tickets on weekday afternoons to save a bundle. This goes for the time that you book and the time that you fly as well. read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon What New York is really like…. or is it?

Upstate New York - DelightfulChaos.comHaving grown up in NJ, directly across from Manhattan, I figured I had a pretty good idea of what New York was like. Last year I was proven wrong when I had to drive in New York City for the very first time. The word nervous doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling. If you have never driven in NYC before, you should give it a try. If you can drive there, you can drive anywhere.

As if traffic was not enough to have to concentrate on, I had to deal with construction as well. I accidentally went through the E-Zpass trying to get into the Lincoln Tunnel. Oopsie! The tunnel was extremely overwhelming at first. You “can’t” change lanes and you “can’t” go over 35 mph. I felt the need to put these in quotes because those are the law that are posted in and outside of the tunnel. I don’t think one person, except my scared self, followed the posted laws.

The semis seem to fly through the tunnel. At times I felt like there was no way my Jeep had enough room in my lane. Then I would see a truck go by and instantly laughed and though, “I’m good!” Luckily, it only took me about 30 seconds to get over my fear of the tunnel and the city. I think I was more worried about someone smashing into my Jeep than I was about hitting someone else.

PostHeaderIcon Welcome Back Excedrin Migraine! Still Managing Mommy Migraines

Most Moms know that when a migraine hits, you have to get it immediately. I personally have trucked through many of them because I had to. The boys still want dinner, still have homework to get done and are still going to yell and fight. Life doesn’t stop because Mom doesn’t feel good, especially not for us single ones.

I recently went to New York for the Excedrin Migraine Media Event. Even though I have been using Excedrin Migraine for many years, there was so much information that I was unaware of. According to a recent survey from the makers of Excedrin Migraine, a large majority of women who suffer from migraines agree that with a better understanding of their triggers (90%) and the right tools to track their triggers and symptoms (83%), they can better manage an attack. That’s why the folks at Excedrin® Migraine have developed a new app called My Migraine Triggers. This apple is available free on iTunes. It allows you to track and gather information  so you can understand what might be triggering your migraines. Once you find those triggers, you can begin to try to prevent them. You can download the app at MigraineResource.comI never tracked my triggers so I was really excited to learn about the My Migraine Triggers app. I really recommend checking it out because some of the features are really impressive and helpful.
