I am really starting to become a fan of KIA. I don’t know if it is because they drive so smooth or I am loving the 30+ mpg that they all seem to get. I have taken most of them on out of town trips and they have always been great to drive. I even drove one through a snow storm. For a girl who is used to driving an SUV, the KIA handled very well. You can see all of my KIA reviews below.

With class-leading horsepower1, the 2013 Rio sedan and Rio 5-door hatchback continue to infuse style, value, technology and spirited road manners into the Kia Motors America (KMA) model lineup. All-new last year, these award-winning subcompacts have played a vital role in achieving Kia’s record sales and market-share growth since the launch of the Soul in 2009.

As Kia’s smallest and most affordable vehicles, the Rio sedan and hatchback offer consumers an abundance of standard amenities, safety features and interior space. New for 2013, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters have been added as standard equipment to the Rio SX to deliver a more engaging driving experience (available early summer). On the fuel-saving front, Rio EX models now offer optional ISG technology as part of the Eco Package. To enhance functionality of the already practical Rio 5-door, a standard cargo under-floor tray has been added to EX and SX models. This change improves cargo-area appearance, provides a flatter load floor with hidden storage and reduces noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels.

Since I am usually traveling, it is very important to me that a vehicle not only drive well but be comfortable. There is nothing worse than having a painful back when arriving at your destination. I did miss the lumbar seating, which the Kia Rio didn’t offer, but it wasn’t really all that bad. The seats were pretty comfortable without it.

They all pretty much drive the same and the interior is very similar. This is comforting because when I get in one, I already know where all of the controls are. It took me a little while to figure out how to use all of the GPS options but, I am a pro now!

I really like the stunning design of the Rio Sedan but it also comes in a 5-door. I like that it has of Kia’s signature grille, they just look slick on the front. It also comes in 3 different styles, the LX, EX and SX with many different options that you can find listed below. You can get a four-cylinder with the option of either a six-speed standard transmission (LX only) or six-speed automatic. While I know how to drive a standard, I hate them in traffic so, my lazy self would take an automatic if I had the choice.

Rio also is the first non-hybrid vehicle that helps reduce fuel consumption and improve fuel economy by turning the engine off when the vehicle is not in motion. This is great if you live in the city and constantly have to stop for stop lights or traffic. It automatically restarting when you release the brake pedal. That’s pretty awesome if you ask me.

Concerned about the enviroment?  85% of the Rio’s materials are recyclable! For example, tt has seat foam material that uses 100 % biodegradable and non-toxic castor oil, which benefits the environment in several ways, including reduced use of petroleum-based products. And because castor oil comes from plants, this material is generated from a completely sustainable source.
