My oldest daughter has always owned a pit bull and they are gentle and loving IMHO...in the 70's/80's I remember it was dobermen's that were the VICIOUS dog...in the 80's/90's we had rottweilers...the 90's and now it's the pit bull...according to this...there should be a new breed of "vicious" dog about to take the reign from the pit bull...I'm sorry but its always about panic mongering when it comes to dogs...treat them right and they will love you FOREVER~!!!

Yep Daisy, as I originally stated, I wasn't saying that there were not incidents. Just not right that some breeds are singled out and not others.

It comes down to the owner and the training. We had next door neighbors with two pit bulls; they were wonderful dogs, and befriended my teen (blind, autistic) immediately. I felt totally safe when he was out petting them.
On the other hand, a pit bull across town attacked a young girl and bit her in the head, causing severe injuries.

It's not the breed; it's the owners/ trainers who make any dog dangerous.

Rebecca, so if you saw a Dalmatian wandering the street you wouldn't grab your kids and run to? Dog attacks are not ALWAYS Pits or Rotts. Did you know that German Shepards and Dalmations are listed in the top 10 most dangerous dogs? The article itself says that the dog was being watched by someone. You are correct, it is the owners responsibility no matter what the breed. However, my point was that as you have proven here, by your statement that you have only heard of attacks by them. Here is one about a Golden Retreiver biting some little girls face off http://caveat.blogware.com/blog/_archives/2007/3/14/2805154.html

Ok, well i'm glad to be educated that pit bulls are not ALWAYS nasty violent dogs, that still doesn't change the fact that EVERY time i've heard of a violent dog attack it has ALWAYS been either a pit bull or a Rottweiler, most often, pit bulls. On occasions when i've seen a loose pit bull i've been grateful to get my children INSIDE FAST, because there's no way i'd ever take the time to determine whether a particular pitbull was violent or not! My children just soooo come first. Owners of dogs of any kind have a RESPONSIBILITY to keep their animals properly restrained. that's all there is to it!

I love Pit Bull Terriers, they are such gentle and amazing animals, and so smart! We've had two, a father and son, they were both great with kids, protective of our family and loved immensely. Like any other animal.dog breed, it's in how the animal is raised!

They tried to ban them here. For awhile they were just confiscated the animals and killing them before lawyers and owners could even get involved. We also had a muzzle law that was lifted.
